Bowling Brings in Bucks
March 6th was full of fun, prizes and food as the teams lined up to Bowl for Kids’ Sake. This was the ninth annual Bowl. The honorary first ball was rolled out by the littles that were present: Alisha, Kane, Corey, Amber, Jarod, Journey, Melody & Allison. There were thirty one teams present this year with four or more bowlers per team. Team captains were encourage to get their teams ready by picking their own theme this year. Paola Middle school teachers went all out, they came as Geisha girls accompanied by two sumo wrestlers. There were also the Raggedy Anne girls, Sunny Beaches, Bowl Hunters, Hawaiian shirts, Loan Sharkettes and Osawatomie Police department with their “Go to Jail” t-shirts.
Three of the cities that make up Miami County were represented during the event. Teams were formed from school teachers from Louisburg and Paola. Osawatomie and Paola Police Departments, County Attorneys office and probation office, Bigs and littles, along with banks, civic groups and businesses. None of this could have been possible without everyone’s efforts and willingness to go out and raise the money to make this a success. Team members were asked to raise a minimum of $
100 and chances for prizes for those who go above and beyond that.
George Hall was our top fundraiser, getting
$1020 in pledges and cash. Each year George strives to raise a little bit more than the previous year. We thank you for you continued success and those who sponsored him.
John Wilson was the emcee again this year. John adds his wonderful humor to the event. He is given a list of Big Brothers Big Sisters facts and is ready to challenge bowlers knowledge of the organization. This year he also added in some bowling history questions. John does a good job of helping us recruit new volunteers as well as adding humor to the event.
Business sponsors always play an important role in our fundraising efforts. Levels of gold, silver, bronze, blue or red ribbons were offered this year. All levels of support is appreciated. Living in a small area, businesses are constantly asked for support. Thank you for any help
you have provided to Big Brothers Big Sisters. It is because of businesses and the individuals of Miami County and the surrounding areas that we are able to continue to provide safe mentors to our youth and our future leaders. The total that was pledged and collected is $26,315.55.
